In the 2012 olympics Michael Phelps swam into history with a lot of help from his friends, taking down the last major record that wasn't his alone. He took the anchor leg for the United States in a gold medal-winning performance of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay Tuesday night, earning the 19th Olympic medal of his brilliant career, and the 15th gold. He did his best that night then later announced his retirement.

The 1936 Summer Olympics were held in Berlin, Germany. To outdo the Los Angeles games of 1932, Germany built a new 100,000-seat track and field stadium, six gymnasiums, and many other smaller arenas. Hitler saw the Games as an opportunity to promote his government and ideals of racial supremacy. Total ticket revenues were 7.5 million Reichsmark.

The 1912 Olympic games in Stockholm, Sweden was known as the Swedish Masterpieace. The Games also benefited from the use of electric timing devices and a public address system which were first used at these Olympic Games.

Good points about new technology. Why was it called the "masterpiece" or "masterpeace"?

Interesting about the "billionaire" population...due to a change toward capitalism and basically new industries popping up. Sort of like the old Carnegies, Mellons and Rockefellers here in the U.S.

Yes, good comment about using steroids and getting caught. This was the beginning of that era and it impacted just about every other sport on the planet! And yes, there were great rivalries at this Olympics! It created "made for TV" in other meets like the World Championships. I think this was the beginning of the last true "amatuer" athletes...they began letting "pros" compete.

The 2012 Olympic's where hosted in London, England. One major highlight, was the US basketball team smashing all of the competion. When they annihilated the competition it created the rivarly between the Dream Team and the 2012 Olympic team.

Very good response to the economic impact. Hopefully it is fully utilized today and won't become a profit losing venture!

Zola Budd was a track and field long distance runner. He ran the 3000m run. But at the time there was alot of racism. So Zola had to get British citizenship in order to run. At the time he was in first place on the last streach. But was tripped by an American runner he finished last place. Four years later South Africa was rewarded with there first Olympic gold won by Zola Budd who was the man that had been tripped.

Accuracy...? Zola Budd was a FEMALE! She was unique in that she ran BAREFOOT! The reason she was not allowed to run for South Africa was they were sanctioned for their political abuses, racism and apartheid.

I beleave the reason this was important was because Hliter could not stand the fact that a blue eyed blond head person won. It was an African American. The whole time this went on not one person knew what Nazis were doing to Jews people.

It Was 2012 In London, And With USA ( Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, ETC.) Winning Another Gold Medal Brought Even More Hatred To The Game Of Basketball, And The Oylmpics Of That Year!!! Also With Them Winning Brought All Types Of Problems Bettween The Team About Statistics, Level Of Play, And Team Work. Alot Of People Didnt Know, But Lebron James And James Harden Got Into A Discussion Arguement After They Recivied Thier Gold Metals. The Arguement Was All Over Statistics And Team Work!!!

The 1968 Olympics were the first Olympics to be held in a Spanish speaking country(Mexico City). It was also the first and only Olympic setting to be set at such a high elevation. It was the first Olympics in whcih many Africans competed and set a major trend for future Africans in the Olympics, because they won atleast one medal in each of the running events. In the mens two hundred meter race one African won gold and another African won bronze. In honor of the civil rights movment, while standing on the award stage, each of them raised one hand with a black glove on it in the air. An Austrian who won second wore a civil rights badge to support them. The two Africans were banned for life from the Olympics and the Austrian was let of the Olympic team in 1972.
